The project of Rania Woodard and Brian Squillace, LANNDS specialize in an intimate, atmospheric brand of indie electronica that seems equally well-suited for downtempo club sets or headphone listening. After launching the duo with three EPs, including the 2017 debut release wide awake in a sleep world, they delivered their first full-length, Music for the Future, in 2023. Based in Florida by way of Memphis, Rania Woodard grew up singing in church and took up blues guitar in her mid-teens. She tried her hand at writing songs while in high school and started experimenting with synths and recording equipment by her early twenties. With help from Jacksonville-area producer Brian Squillace, she self-released the textured guitar-based single "Still" as LANNDS in mid-2016. While it continued to garner some attention in the indie blogosphere and accumulate streams, she uploaded the off-kilter "wide awake." Consistently airy and melancholy in tone, she followed those with two more singles early in 2017, and soon bundled the four songs as the wide awake in a sleep world EP. LANNDS were officially a duo by the time they released the follow-up, July 2018's legends EP. A third EP, lotus, saw release in November 2020 with songwriting, producing, recording, and mixing all credited to LANNDS. The pair celebrated signing with Run for Cover Records by adding three tracks for the release of lotus deluxe in February 2022. LANNDS' first album, Music for the Future, was recorded mostly in Squillace's home studio in Jacksonville, although some vocal tracks were taken straight from 2021 writing sessions at a cabin in northern Georgia. The finished debut album arrived on Run for Cover in March 2023.
