From Ashes to New

Employing a versatile amalgam of metal, hip-hop, hard rock, and electronicore, Pennsylvania's From Ashes to New first found success with the hard-hitting and emotionally charged single "Through It All," which appeared on their 2016 debut LP, Day One. The group further honed their empowering metal/hip-hop hybrid style on subsequent efforts like Panic (2020) and Blackout (2023) and landed a string of Top Ten Billboard Mainstream Rock singles ("Crazy," "Panic," and "Through It All"). A side project that turned into a main band for all involved, From Ashes to New fell together with members from other Lancaster, Pennsylvania bands that were falling apart. Vocalist and guitarist Matt Brandyberry started the band in August of 2013, and the lineup gradually coalesced around area veterans Chris Musser (rapping, vocals), Branden Kreider (guitar), and Tim d'Onofrio (drums). After releasing a self-titled EP that same year, the group entered the studio with producer Grant McFarland and produced the Downfall EP for Eleven Seven Music in 2015. Bolstered by "Through It All," a Top 20 hit on the mainstream rock chart, From Ashes to New released their debut album, Day One, in February 2016. Tim d'Onofrio and Chris Musser left the fold the following year, with Mat Madiro stepping in as the new drummer and Danny Case joining the group on vocals. In February 2018, the band dropped the single "Crazy" ahead of the release of their sophomore full-length effort The Future, which arrived later that April. The set entered the Billboard 200 at number 163, with "Crazy" soaring to number three on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart. Following two years of touring alongside contemporaries like Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, Ice Nine Kills, and Skillet, the band returned with their third full-length outing, Panic. Released in 2020, the LP featured the same lineup as The Future, and was produced by Colin Brittain (Papa Roach, All Time Low). Three years later, the band returned with Blackout, a prequel to their 2016 debut that aimed to capture the discord and distress of the Covid-19 pandemic.
