Baby Queen

Baby Queen's effervescent alt-pop navigates elements of dance-pop, indie rock, and anthemic electro-pop alongside often wry, candid takes on modern life. The singer and songwriter released her debut EP, Medicine, in 2020, following it a year later with her playful debut mixtape The Yearbook. Her first proper album, the equally theatrical Quarter Life Crisis, saw release in 2023. Born Arabella Latham in Durban, South Africa, Baby Queen started writing music when she was around ten years old, and she began taking it seriously when she was 16. A move to London two years later saw her working her way into the music industry, writing material inspired by her own experiences of living in the capitol. Although it took Latham a few years to find her footing, she inked a deal with Polydor to release her music in 2020, with the track "Internet Religion" appearing first. The infectious "BuzzKill" followed, along with her ode to Killing Eve star Jodie Comer, "Want Me." These songs, as well as new material, appeared on her 2020 debut EP, Medicine. During the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic, Latham started to record new music that was inspired by her time spent sheltering in place. Tracks such as "Dover Beach" and "American Dream" were released through the beginning of 2021 before being collected midyear for her frequently wry debut mixtape The Yearbook. In 2022, the Baby Queen single "Colours of You" was the first of several songs to be used in conjunction with the Netflix coming-of-age series Heartstopper. Later single "LAZY" was included in an expansion pack for game The Sims 4 before the end of the year. In 2023, she began releasing singles from her official full-length debut. "Dream Girl" and the argumentative "We Can Be Anything" preceded the release of the album in October.
