Abel Korzeniowski
Idioma disponible: inglésPolish film/TV composer Abel Korzeniowski is recognized for both his quiet but emotive chamber music and dynamic orchestral-choral accompaniment. He started out scoring Polish films in the early 2000s before finding work in the U.K. and Hollywood beginning later in the decade. A highlight of his work includes his 2004 original score for Fritz Lang's silent classic Metropolis -- that one with a 150-piece combined orchestra and choir -- the TV series Penny Dreadful (2014-2016), and the psychological thriller Nocturnal Animals (2016). Along the way, he also made a name for himself with music for stage plays. Born in Kraków in 1972, Korzeniowski is a cellist who studied composition with Krzysztof Penderecki at the Academy of Music in Kraków. He finished his formal education in 2000, the same year he made his film scoring debut with the comedy-drama Big Animal (Duze Zwierze). It was named Best Score at the 2000 Polish Film Festival. A year later, his composition Hypnosis was premiered in Berlin by the Sinfonietta Cracovia, conducted by Penderecki. Over the next couple of years, he scored a handful of Polish features and documentary shorts before debuting his newly composed score for the 1927 silent film Metropolis at the 2004 New Horizons Film Festival in Wroclaw. He followed that with the collection Music for Drama in 2005. He then joined the crew of the CGI film Terra (aka Battle for Terra), which saw release in 2007, before collaborating with American writer/director Tom Ford on his 2009 film A Single Man. A Single Man earned Korzeniowski his first Golden Globe nomination for score. A second nomination followed for 2011's W.E., a bio-pic about King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson directed by Madonna. In 2013, his music could be heard in Carlo Carlei's Romeo & Juliet, and in 2014, he kicked off a three-season stay with the Showtime-Sky horror-fantasy Penny Dreadful. He received three Emmy Award nominations during his time with the show, including two for original dramatic score and one for his main theme. He became a BAFTA nominee for his work on 2016's Nocturnal Animals, his second film with Tom Ford. The horror film The Nun followed in 2018; WaterTower Music issued Korzeniowski's score.
