Some Nights redobla la ambición y la ampulosidad sonora del álbum debut de Fun, pero al mismo tiempo consigue ser aún más poderoso y impactante. Si bien la influencia del hip hop es mayor en este disco que en Aim And Ignite, todavía corre por la sangre de la banda una considerable dosis de Queen y ELO, tanto en las armonías vocales computarizadas como en la recargada grandiosidad del sonido. Cuerdas, metales, coros, teclados y baterías programadas rodean al cantante Nate Ruess como una multitud clamorosa, pero nunca llegan a sofocar su voz sincera y sus letras dolorosamente honestas, estableciendo así una base muy humana desde donde todo se afirma mientras la música va construyendo ornamentados crescendos.
