El primer álbum de Braxton para Atlantic, Pulse se retrasó más de un año debido al material que se filtró y obligó al cantante a grabar varias canciones nuevas. Tampoco ninguna de las colaboraciones restantes con artistas de renombre consiguió entrar en el álbum. Incluso si se tenían bajas expectativas, Pulse resulta sin duda satisfactorio. Hay un gran nivel de convicción que no se tambalea, y que resulta especialmente impresionante dado que el álbum cubre tantas etapas de una relación romántica. Pocos son los que como Braxton pueden sacar un material con tanto contraste drástico y tanta fuerza, y mucho menos en el transcurso de un álbum de 40 minutos. Un par de baladas respiran poco entusiasmo en su sonido y sus letras son banales, pero incluso así, este es fácilmente el mejor trabajo del cantante desde The Heat.
