Bruno Mars atravesaba un gran momento cuando su primer disco, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, fue lanzado en 2010. En efecto, el primer sencillo del álbum, la elegantemente romántica "Just the Way You Are" se encontraba al tope de la lista de ventas. Para su debut, Mars contó con el aporte de un nutrido equipo de compositores y productores, pero sin embargo el disco sonaba como si hubiera sido escrito y grabado durante una cálida y somnolienta tarde de verano de domingo.
