A tiempo para convertirse en perfecto regalo navideño, Beatles For Sale llega a las tiendas el 4 de diciembre de 1964, en un momento en que los Fab Four son ya ídolos planetarios. El ritmo que se les impone resulta, con todo, inhumano. El grupo se ve forzado contractualmente a grabar dos álbumes al año y programas televisivos sin cesar, además de a encadenar una giras maratoniana tras otra: ¡la Beatlemanía alcanza así grados superlativos! Las consecuencias de tanta locura asoman por tanto en este cuarto disco que contiene seis versiones (Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Lieber & Stoller…) y ocho canciones originales. John, Paul, George y Ringo nos miran con caras taciturnas desde la portada y ofrecen títulos tan explícitos como I’m A Loser, Baby's In Black, I Don't Want To Spoil The Party o No Reply, pertenecientes a unos temas bastante melancólicos e incluso sombríos.
