U2 tras los pasos de David Bowie. Al igual que el cantante de Heroes, que se trasladó a Berlín en 1976 para encontrar sangre nueva, Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton y Larry Mullen fueron a la capital alemana en 1990 para escribir su séptimo álbum. Al haber caído el muro un año antes, se respiraba un ambiente de libertad, aunque algo caótico. Producido por Brian Eno y Daniel Lanois, Achtung Baby mezcla esos dos ambientes, tanto en el contenido como en la forma. Musicalmente, es más experimental, industrial y electrónico que los anteriores discos de la banda, sin por ello abandonar cierto lirismo. En cuanto a las letras, se respetan las especificaciones de los irlandeses, trascendiendo en muchas de ellas los temas sentimentales para evocar las relaciones humanas de forma más general (So Cruel, Even Better Than The Real Thing, Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses). Como era obligatorio en Berlín, la unificación está en el centro de algunos temas, empezando por el famoso One. Pero aquí también, Bono le aporta un espíritu universal.
Este exilio berlinés no fue muy concluyente desde el punto de vista artístico y terminaron Achtung Baby en casa, en los estudios irlandeses. No obstante, las huellas de Alemania se perciben en algunos temas, empezando por Zoo Station, una referencia a la estación de metro Zoologischer Garten. En cuanto al más rock Until The End Of The World, fue escrito para la película del mismo nombre del director alemán Wim Wenders. Se trata de una conversación ficticia entre Jesús y Judas, conducida por un poderoso solo de guitarra de The Edge. Eno resumió el álbum europeo de U2 de la siguiente manera: “Las palabras clave de este disco son cutre, oscuro, sexy e industrial (todas ellas cosas buenas), pero también serio, educado, dulce, recto, rockero y lineal (todas ellas cosas malas).” Cabe destacar que, además de la versión remasterizada de Achtung Baby, la 30th Anniversary Edition que acaba de salir al mercado incluye 22 canciones inéditas y numerosas remezclas. © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz

Descripción del álbum
U2 tras los pasos de David Bowie. Al igual que el cantante de Heroes, que se trasladó a Berlín en 1976 para encontrar sangre nueva, Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton y Larry Mullen fueron a la capital alemana en 1990 para escribir su séptimo álbum. Al haber caído el muro un año antes, se respiraba un ambiente de libertad, aunque algo caótico. Producido por Brian Eno y Daniel Lanois, Achtung Baby mezcla esos dos ambientes, tanto en el contenido como en la forma. Musicalmente, es más experimental, industrial y electrónico que los anteriores discos de la banda, sin por ello abandonar cierto lirismo. En cuanto a las letras, se respetan las especificaciones de los irlandeses, trascendiendo en muchas de ellas los temas sentimentales para evocar las relaciones humanas de forma más general (So Cruel, Even Better Than The Real Thing, Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses). Como era obligatorio en Berlín, la unificación está en el centro de algunos temas, empezando por el famoso One. Pero aquí también, Bono le aporta un espíritu universal.
Este exilio berlinés no fue muy concluyente desde el punto de vista artístico y terminaron Achtung Baby en casa, en los estudios irlandeses. No obstante, las huellas de Alemania se perciben en algunos temas, empezando por Zoo Station, una referencia a la estación de metro Zoologischer Garten. En cuanto al más rock Until The End Of The World, fue escrito para la película del mismo nombre del director alemán Wim Wenders. Se trata de una conversación ficticia entre Jesús y Judas, conducida por un poderoso solo de guitarra de The Edge. Eno resumió el álbum europeo de U2 de la siguiente manera: “Las palabras clave de este disco son cutre, oscuro, sexy e industrial (todas ellas cosas buenas), pero también serio, educado, dulce, recto, rockero y lineal (todas ellas cosas malas).” Cabe destacar que, además de la versión remasterizada de Achtung Baby, la 30th Anniversary Edition que acaba de salir al mercado incluye 22 canciones inéditas y numerosas remezclas. © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
