El último disco que grabaron los Beatles (si bien fue Let It Be el último en publicarse), Abbey Road, resultó ser perfecto como canto del cisne de este grupo, ya que refleja algunas de las falsas formas conceptuales de Sgt. Pepper a la vez que contiene composiciones más sólidas y un trabajo de conjunto más orientado al rock. El grupo aún iba avanzando en todas las facetas de su arte, ya fuera en la concepción de algunas de las mejores armonías que habrá nunca en un disco de rock, en la elaboración de una mezcla de canciones/estampas con la que cubrieron gran parte de la segunda cara, en la adición de toques sutiles de sintetizador Moog o en la composición de un rock frenético y cargado de guitarreo. George Harrison se convirtió también en un cantautor muy destacado, ya que en este disco aportó "Here Comes the Sun", una pieza muy optimista, y "Something", una balada sumamente melódica que se convertiría en el primer éxito de los Beatles que compuso Harrison.
