Acerca de la Playlist
Formado en 2002, el grupo británico de indie rock Editors reivindica ante todo su influencia de Joy Division, aunque se le compara sobre todo con la banda estadounidense Interpol. Inicialmente llamados Pilot, luego The Pride, seguidos de The Snowfield y finalmente Editors, los cuatro músicos enviaron por primera vez la maqueta de su single “Bullets” a varios sellos, en 2003. Al año siguiente firmaron con Kitchenware Records en Newcastle. A este tema le siguieron su segundo single, “Munich“, y “Blood”. Su álbum debut, “The Back Room”, se publicó finalmente en 2005. Fue un disco de rock energético y melódico en el que la cohesión de la banda se hizo evidente. El álbum se convirtió en platino en el Reino Unido, fueron teloneros de Franz Ferdinand y realizaron una gira por Estados Unidos, tocando en festivales como Coachella y Lollapalooza. En 2007, su segundo álbum, “An End Has A Start”, también fue un éxito, llegando a ser platino. A esto le siguieron otras apariciones en los festivales de Glastonbury, Eurockéennes, Solidays, Oxegen y Musilac, Pinkpop, etc. Editors se fue de gira por Norteamérica y Europa, abriendo para los grandiosos R.E.M., una banda que siempre ha influido en los cuatro músicos. Editors suelen interpretar el tema “Orange Crush” en directo. “In This Light and On This Evening”, un trabajo definitivamente más electro, utiliza los sintetizadores de principio a fin. Producido por el famoso Flood (U2, Nine Inch Nails, The Killers), esta obra marca la diferencia y está más cerca de la estética de New Order que del post-punk. La voz del cantante Tom Smith se adapta bien a los ochenta, por ejemplo, en “Bricks and Mortar”. La banda pasó a ser telonera de Muse y escribió una canción para la banda sonora de “Crepúsculo”. En 2013, tras la salida del guitarrista Chris Urbanowicz, sustituido por Justin Lockey y Elliott Williams, Editors lanzó “The Weight Of Your Love”. Este trabajo fue grabado en Nashville y producido por Jacquire King (Norah Jones, Buddy Guy, Kings Of Leon, Tom Waits, etc.), volviendo a un sonido más rockero. A pesar de la desigual acogida de la crítica, el álbum fue un éxito entre los fans. Esta grabación se centra en el amor y todas sus formas, "ya sea romántico, de ruptura, espeluznante u obsesivo", según Tom Smith.
