Para su tercer álbum de estudio homónimo, el conjunto de punk-pop originario de Montreal Simple Plan decidió avanzar en el camino de la accesibilidad, contratando al productor Bob Rock (Metallica) del trío de Danjahandz (Timbaland), Dave Fortman (Evanescence) y Max Martin (Britney Spears). Las canciones resultantes colocan perfectamente al vocalista Pierre Bouvier y a la banda en el rock de masas, como se observa en los himnos emotivos "When I'm Gone" y "Your Love Is a Lie".
