No puede decirse que los discos de Van Morrison en estos últimos veinte años hayan dejado la misma huella que sus obras maestras de comienzos de los 70, como Astral Weeks, Moondance o Veedon Fleece. En 2012 Born To Sing: No Plan B supuso un buen modo de regresar, probando que el bardo irlandés se encontraba todavía en buena forma. Cuatro años más tarde, Keep Me Singing confirmaba esa impresión con nuevas canciones en las que Van The Man no solo parecía mantener a raya los infortunios de la edad –su voz no era la misma que en 1969–, sino que los manejaba de maravilla, consiguiendo proporcionar a cada pieza una atmósfera cálida y acogedora. Quizás había algo menos de pasión y exuberancia, pero a cambio se descubría más elegancia y sensibilidad en su habitual y extraordinario cóctel de soul, jazz y blues, que constituye su sello de fábrica. El mismo espíritu sigue presidiendo este Roll With The Punches, por más que en esta ocasión el repertorio se componga fundamentalmente de versiones de temas blues y soul (Bo Diddley, T-Bone Walker, Count Basie, Sam Cooke, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Mose Allison, Little Walter, Bo Diddley), más cinco canciones originales de regalo.
