Mexican melodic rockers Volován deliver more of their catchy mix of '70s power pop and '80s college rock on Monitor. Sung entirely in Spanish, the group's third studio album is full of hooky chorus, driving beats and a handful of heartfelt ballads, all of which more often than not sound like a mix of Morrissey and Green Day with a bit of chamber pop icon Eric Matthews thrown in. These are superb nuggets of pop radio gold that make most of lead singer Chalo Galván's charming vocals and the band's overall post-punk aesthetic.
