Figura habitual del despiadado mundo de las redes sociales, Cardi B se ha dotado de una identidad indestructible como stripper y participante en realitys. Sin pelos en la lengua y consciente de cómo sacar el máximo partido a su celebridad, ha volcado toda su energía en una única pasión: la música, y más en concreto el rap. Y de ese modo sonó la flauta. Acertó con un tema como Bodak Yellow, convirtiendo esa canción del rapero Kodak Black en vehículo para su deje del Bronx, su desbordante energía y su extremada sinceridad. Optando por una línea dura tipo Remy Ma o Gangsta Boo, Cardi B decidió alejarse de la tendencia pop representada por una Nicki Minaj. Su éxito fue fulminante, pero dejaba más de una incógnita en el aire.
En Invasion of Privacy Cardi B ha convocado todas sus cualidades para plasmar un puñado de standards contemporáneos. Y se atreve con todos los palos del género, desde la fórmula club de DJ Mustard con YG al estimulante minimalismo junto a los muchachos de Migos. Algunos de los cortes resultan incluso bastante sorprendentes, como esa balada con la inclasificable Kehlani, ese momento de respiro con Chance The Rapper o, también, ese himno feminista y provocador a dúo con la indómita SZA. Cada invitado ha sido elegido con cuidado con el fin de presentar a Cardi B bajo diferentes ángulos y en los más heterogéneos ambientes, como ese exuberante entorno latino de I Like It. Pero donde la rapera se demuestra más convincente es, sin duda, en los cortes en solitario, como Get Up 10, con su impecable y tierna introducción vocal al modo de Meek Mill, o Bickenhead, relectura luminosa y reivindicativa de un clásico de Project Pat.
La artista se desempeña con acierto en cada corte, mostrándose a veces ciertamente algo histriónica, pero también espléndida y altamente expresiva desde un punto vocal. Su acento latino se traduce por lo demás en una rítmica tan atípica como original. Sus defectos de pronunciación son aprovechados en beneficio propio, puesto que Cardi B pone en muchos momentos su identidad por bandera para proponer juegos de palabras y complejas rimas internas que hacen el conjunto todavía más enigmático. Invasion of Privacy nos muestra su personalidad a manera de libro abierto –con algunas páginas desgarradas–, invitando al oyente a conocerla mejor. Con su perfecto equilibrio entre cálculo y espontaneidad, Cardi B pasa con nota el complicado escollo que supone un primer álbum.
