La segunda grabación de Yo-Yo Ma de las Suites para violonchelo de Bach, publicada en 1997, no difiere mucho de la grabación anterior. De todos modos, cada suite parece distinguirse de las otras y los movimientos resultan más cohesionados; además, la interpretación de Ma resulta más instintiva, relajada y natural e incluso más abiertamente comunicativa que la grabación anterior. No exagera ninguna de sus decisiones sobre el dinamismo, el tempo o las frases y, sin embargo, existe la sensación de que deja que fluya la música de manera natural a través de su instrumento. Los movimientos de baile realmente bailan e incluso los movimientos más introspectivos de las Suites Nº 2 y Nº 3 cautivan al oyente causal.
