A The Dead Wheather (que combina los talentos de Jack White, Jack Lawrence, Alison Mosshart y Dean Fertita) no le importa tanto ofrecer lo que se espera de ellos como desacatarlo, ya que dejan de lado las estructuras más firmes de sus otras bandas en favor de una mezcla de sus aportaciones con toques de blues. El tema que abre Horehound, "60 Feet Tall", pone de relieve lo explosivo que puede resultar su sonido, desde las guitarras y la percusión socarronas con las que empieza hasta el clímax que llega tras una arremetida. White y Mosshart sacan lo mejor el uno del otro en "Hang You from the Heavens" y "Treat Me Like Your Mother", en la que su forma de cantar y el estribillo "left, right, left, right" ("izquierda, derecha, izquierda, derecha" podría ir lo mismo sobre bailar que sobre pelear. Horehound es un disco cautivador, y en algunos puntos lo es de formas inesperadas.
