Estos veteranos alemanes del power metal y del metal progresivo han estado presentes desde mediados de los 80, y tanto si tiene influencias de la música clásica europea o la música folk europea, At the Edge of Time mantiene una obstinada perspectiva pre-años 90. Las líricas son fantasiosas, y cuando incorporan música folk europea, no lo hacen al estilo black metal o death metal como, por ejemplo, Finntroll. Blind Guardian continúan viviendo y respirando el estilo de los 70 y 80, recordándonos que disfrutan de la pompa de la Reina tanto como de la pompa de Iron Maiden y Judas Priest. Algunos se quejarán de que suena anticuado, pero es que anticuado es exactamente el estilo que Blind Guardian busca. Aunque no es esencial, At the Edge of Time es un disco que engancha.
