This CD features the big hits of Martinho da Vila in a live recording commemorating 30 years of his career, including his own compositions like "Segure Tudo" and "Casa de Bamba." The irreproachable malandro carioca also presents precious jewels of the bambas of the hills (such as João da Baiana, Donga, Pixinguinha, and Silas de Oliveira), including "Pelo Telefone" (the first recorded samba), "Batuque Na Cozinha," and others. Big commercial successes with marginal melodic/lyrical interest like "Mulheres" and "Devagar, Devagarinho" are also part of the album. The interpretation is, as always with da Vila, quite faithful to the true samba spirit. Some songs like "Cama e Mesa" (by Roberto Carlos/Erasmo Carlos, who deal with styles outside the samba) are adapted to the samba, but with no great expressive results. Much more interesting is Chico Buarque/Vinícius de Moraes' "Valsinha," where da Vila tries a different genre (valse) in the introduction, soon returning to the 4/4 samba. This is a good samba album with only three new unpublished songs ("Vem Chegando, Chega Mais," "Quem Foi Que Disse," "Pra Poder Te Amar") in which he is accompanied, as always, by some of the finest Carioca sambistas, and featuring the precise production of Rildo Hora.
