Snoh Aalegra

Snoh Aalegra is a Swedish-born Iranian singer and songwriter who has termed her work "cinematic soul." Favoring a highly expressive if understated approach to contemporary R&B, she established herself with the albums Feels (2017) and Ugh, Those Feels Again (2019), the latter of which featured "I Want You Around," a number one hit on Billboard's Adult R&B Songs chart. TEMPORARY HIGHS IN THE VIOLET SKIES (2021) subsequently became her highest-charting project yet and earned a pair of Grammy nominations. Aalegra has since issued her third Grammy-nominated recording, "DO 4 LOVE" (2021), a standalone single remixed two years later by Black Coffee. The Uppsala-born, Los Angeles-based Aalegra received early support from producer No I.D., who added her to the ARTium Recordings family. Aalegra appeared in 2014 on Common's ARTium/Def Jam album Nobody's Smiling, then released her debut, the There Will Be Sunshine EP, through major-label Epic. On the highlight "Bad Things," Common returned Aalegra's earlier favor with a guest verse. During the first half of the following year, Aalegra released the RZA-produced "Emotional" and appeared on Vince Staples' "Jump Off the Roof." The mini-album Don't Explain followed in 2016 and built anticipation for the October 2017 arrival of Feels, which contained contributions from Staples, Vic Mensa, and Logic. A handful of additional singles, including the Adult R&B Songs-topping ballad "I Want You Around," led to the 2019 LP Ugh, Those Feels Again. The album, issued that August with support from Kobalt's AWAL division, entered the Billboard 200 at number 73 and reached number 39 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Aalegra was then nominated for two of Sweden's Grammis awards: Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. Productive throughout 2020, Aalegra was featured on tracks by dvsn, Alicia Keys, and Giveon. Still with ARTium, Aalegra entered a joint deal with Roc Nation that commenced in 2021 with the single "Dying 4 Your Love." That July, Aalegra released TEMPORARY HIGHS IN THE VIOLET SKIES, a full-length boasting multiple appearances from Tyler, The Creator and one from James Fauntleroy. The album entered the Swedish national chart at number 45, and in the U.S. reached number 24 on the Billboard 200 (number 16 R&B/hip-hop). It was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best R&B Album, while "Lost You," a number six Adult R&B hit, was up for Best R&B Performance. HIGHS was also warmly received in Sweden, where it took the Grammis award for Soul/R&B of the Year. Aalegra enjoyed further success with "DO 4 LOVE," an ethereal and deeply heartfelt update of Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do for Love." The standalone single was nominated for Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. Black Coffee's official remix of the track followed in 2023.
