NOBRO

Delivering a super-sized portion of punk attitude, hard rock guitars, and garage rock sneer, NOBRO are a Canadian band who know how to capture the sound of a wild party that just broke out in your neighborhood. At once fiercely feminist and untroubled about political correctness, they let their glam and hard rock influences take center stage on their 2016 EP Stroke Level: High! (along with some girl group harmonies), but their punky spirit came to dominate their approach by the time they released 2020's Sick Hustle. With the band's debut full-length, 2023's Set Your Pussy Free, NOBRO took their rebellious sound to the next level, sounding tighter and harder than before without sacrificing their swagger. Formed in Toronto in 2014, NOBRO started out as a trio featuring lead singer and bassist Kathryn McCaughey, guitarist and vocalist Marianna Florczyk, and drummer and vocalist Martha Rodriguez. After cutting their first demo in November 2014, the group honed their technique through live work, and in 2016, Brain Gum Records released their first EP, Stoke Level: High! By this time, Martha Rodriguez had left the band, and Sarah Dion had joined as their drummer. In 2017, Marianna Florczyk dropped out of NOBRO, and the group became a quartet with the addition of Gabrielle La Rue on guitar and vocals, and Lisandre Bourdages on keyboards and percussion. They began work on an album, but sessions bogged down, and in 2018, Gabrielle La Rue was out of the lineup and Karolane Carbonneau became their lead guitarist. In 2019, NOBRO issued a single, "LALA," and after signing with Dine Alone Records for Canada and Big Scary Monsters for the United Kingdom, they released a four-song EP, Sick Hustle, taken from the uncompleted album. After issuing a flexi-disc single with NOBRO covering Betty Davis' "Game Is My Middle Name," the group released an EP, Live Your Truth Shred Some Gnar, produced by Thomas D'Arcy. When not recording, the band toured frequently, and were sharing stages with Fidlar, PUP, the Distillers, Billy Talent, Tokyo Police Club, and blink-182. In October 2023, NOBRO finally delivered their first full-length album, Set Your Pussy Free, which was produced by Dave Schiffman and released by Dine Alone.
