Marcus Creed

Artistic director of the SWR (Südwest-Radio) Vocal Ensemble in Stuttgart since 2003, Marcus Creed studied at King's College, Cambridge, Christ Church college, Oxford and London's Guildhall School. From 1977 to 1998 he was based in Berlin, where he lead the Deutsche Oper choir, was a professor at Hochschule der Künste and a pianist and director at Gruppe Neue Musik and Scharoun. In 1987 Marcus Creed became artistic director of RIAS Kammerchor, which received a number of international accolades whilst under his leadership. He also maintains close ties with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Freiburger Barockorchester and Concerto Köln. He could be spotted at Berliner Festwochen and festivals in Vienna, Salzburg, Montreux, Edinburgh, Lucerne, Innsbruck, Donaueschingen, Strasbourg and Göttingen. In 1998 he accepted a post as professor of choral direction at the Cologne conservatory. His recordings of works by Bruckner, Ives, Nono and Kurtág with the SWR Vocal Ensemble have been widely praised by German critics.
