En plus de 100 titres, ce coffret réunit tous ses enregistrements pour le label Motown, faces B de singles et autres maxis inclus, mais essentiellement neuf albums : Come Get It! (1978), Bustin' Out of L Seven et Fire It Up (1979), Garden of Love (1980), Street Songs (1981), Throwin' Down (1982), Cold Blooded (1983), Glow (1985) et The Flag (1986).
Evidemment, Street Songs est le chef-d’œuvre qui surnage au-dessus du lot. Certains parleront de trait d’union entre la galaxie P-funk et le Purple Rain de Prince. Impeccable instantané de la musique noire américaine du début de cette décennie, Street Songs est la meilleure assimilation du disco par le funk. Rick James n’utilise que la substantifique moelle du disco qu’il injecte à son funk cru et sauvage.
