Une bonne poignée de EP plus tard, Matt Corby sort ce premier véritable album studio. Pour ce Telluric, la voix du jeune Australien au léger falsetto a laissé place à un chant plus sombre et introspectif. Et dire qu’en 2007, c’est un Corby de 16 ans qui finissait second de l’émission Australian Idol… Le temps ayant fait mûrir tout ça, le songwriter de Sidney s’est trouvé un style bien à lui. Une musique assez envoûtante puisant aussi bien dans le folk en apesanteur que dans une sorte de soul très mélancolique, quasi-sensuelle. Entre Gnarls Barkley et Bon Iver, Corby s’assoit avec l’aisance d’un vieux briscard et joue au lover boisé avec beaucoup de conviction. Une vraie révélation. © CM/Qobuz
