On ne peut pas dire que les enregistrements de Van Morrison de ces vingt dernières années aient autant marqué les esprits que ces chefs d’œuvre du début des années 70 tels qu’Astral Weeks, Moondance ou Veedon Fleece. En 2012, Born To Sing: No Plan B avait été un joli comeback prouvant que le barde irlandais en avait encore sous le pied. Quatre ans plus tard, Keep Me Singing confirmait ce sentiment avec de nouvelles chansons sur lesquelles Van The Man s’adaptait non seulement aux contraintes de l’âge – il ne chante plus comme en 1969 – mais il les domptait à merveille, réussissant à donner à chaque morceau une atmosphère habitée et chaleureuse. Moins de passion et d’exubérance, plus de finesse et de cœur dans son habituel sublime alliage de soul, de jazz et de blues, sa marque de fabrique. L’esprit reste le même sur ce Roll With The Punches, même si cette fois le répertoire est essentiellement composé de reprises blues et soul (Bo Diddley, T-Bone Walker, Count Basie, Sam Cooke, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Lightnin' Hopkins, Mose Allison, Little Walter, Bo Diddley), avec en prime cinq chansons originales.
