Véritable héro folk/pop de sa ville de Denver, Nathaniel Rateliff n’a jamais autant brillé depuis qu’il s’est associé avec les Night Sweats qui lui fournissent un support musical idéal. L’album sonne comme une rencontre entre les Blues Brothers et Johnny Cash, donnant lieu à un rock/folk festif baigné dans une soul retro à souhait. Gouvernées par le producteur Richard Swift, les sessions d’enregistrement de cet album s’avèrent être grandement fructueuse, capturant parfaitement la voix émotionnelle de Rateliff tout en mettant l’accent sur la musicalité des musiciens qui l’accompagnent. Les chansons se suivent mais ne se ressemblent pas, faisant successivement penser à du Van Morrison, à du Gregg Allman ou encore à du Sam Cooke.
