Publié au cœur de l’été 2014, World Peace Is None Of Your Business rassurait quant à l’inspiration d’un Morrissey plus ragaillardi que jamais. Trois ans plus tard, avec Low In High School, l’ancien chanteur des Smiths change son fusil d’épaule avec un onzième album solo assez déroutant. Déroutant surtout niveau son. Mais l’éclectisme de la production, passant du bodybuilding total à la ritournelle quasi acoustique, ne doit pas masquer la puissance de nombreuses chansons. Comme d’habitude, Moz est impeccable dans son rôle de pamphlétaire misanthrope et, dès la pochette, on comprend que le dandy britannique n’est pas là pour ravaler sa bile. Une bile qu’il aime toujours parer d’une bonne dose d’ambigüité politique, cet art dont il demeure un véritable expert. Mais quand il fait du Morrissey, comme sur Home Is a Question Mark ou I Bury The Living, lorsqu’il enfile ses habits de crooner décalé sur une prose affutée, il est unique… Album après album, Morrissey rappelle un peu plus que la saga des Smiths est bien morte et enterrée et qu’il compte toujours faire des galipettes sur sa pierre tombale. © MD/Qobuz
