Harpsichordist Giulia Nuti has taught at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, performed as a soloist and in ensembles, and recorded for several major labels. She is also the author of a major book on continuo technique. Nuti was born in Cambridge, England, in 1976 but grew up in Florence, Italy, also maintaining connections to Britain. She took up the harpsichord at the age of ten. Nuti studied at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and then the Royal Academy of Music in London. She went on to the Royal College of Music and then to King's College, Cambridge, studying organ, fortepiano, and harpsichord. At King's, she completed a master's degree, writing a thesis on Italian performance practice in early keyboard music and then landing a position as College Musician of Queens' College, Cambridge. She revised her thesis into a book, The Performance of Italian Basso Continuo, which is regarded as an important text in the field. In 1999, she made her recording debut with the ensemble Modo Antiquo, playing harpsichord on an album of concerti grossi by Corelli. From 2007 to 2010, she worked with the Listening Gallery Project of the Royal College of Music, providing appropriate music for historical displays. In 2007, she joined the faculty at her alma mater, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, where she remained as of the early 2020s. Modo Antiquo was just one of the leading early music ensembles with which Nuti frequently performed; others included Il Pomo d'Oro, Orfeo 55, and the Academy of Ancient Music. With these groups and as a soloist, she has appeared at many European music festivals. In 2014, Nuti released her debut solo album on the Harmonia Mundi label; Les Sauvages: Harpsichords in pre-Revolutionary Paris was awarded the Diapason d'Or in France. She scored another major recording industry honor, the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, for her 2017 album Le Cœur & l'Oreille: Manuscript Bauyn, which appeared on the Arcana label. Nuti returned on Arcana in 2022 with The Fall of the Leaf: English Keyboard Music on the Rucellai Virginal.
