Kin est le deuxième album du Pat Metheny Unity Band (et le 20e pour le guitariste) qui, depuis la sortie de l’album éponyme (récompensé par un Grammy Awards), a donné plus de deux cents concerts de par le monde et s’est adjoint les services du multi-instrumentiste Giulio Carmassi. On retrouve donc Chris Potter au saxophone ténor et à la clarinette basse, Ben Williams à la basse et Antonio Sanchez à la batterie, quant à Giulio Carmassi, il s’exprime au piano, à la trompette, au trombone, au cor, au violoncelle, au vibraphone, à la clarinette, à la flûte, au saxophone alto, au Wurlitzer, il siffle et chante !!!. Un album grandiose, qui semble très improvisé mais est, en fait, très écrit comme nous l'a précisé Metheny lui-même, heureux d'avoir retrouvé un saxophone ténor (Chris Potter) qui le motive à ce point depuis ses enregistrements avec Michael Brecker ou Dewey Redman il y a vingt ans. © JMP/Qobuz
