S’il n’est pas le plus illustre des albums d’Elton John, Ice on Fire a l’avantage de contenir le merveilleux sirop « Nikita », qui inspira indirectement le film de Luc Besson, tout en féminisant odieusement aux yeux du public un prénom slave tout à fait masculin.
Des slows langoureux (« Cry To The Moon ») côtoient, comme d’habitude chez Elton John, des morceaux de jazz-rock particulièrement swinguants (« Wrap Her Up », « Tell Me What The Papers Say »). Un duo particulièrement explosif avec Millie Jackson (« Act of War ») n’est malheureusement pas présent dans toutes les éditions de l’album, dont la plus récente comprend une version live de « I’m still standing ».
