Choi Yu Ree

South Korean singer-songwriter Choi Yu-ree was born in Gangwon-do, South Korea on November 24, 1998. Learning piano from an early age, she graduated from Pyeongchang High School to attend Donga University of the Arts, where she majored in music composition. Competing in the star-making Yoo Jae-ha Music Contest in 2018, Choi won the grand prize with her piece “Complaint”, signing with Shofar Music and making her debut in February, 2020 with her multi-genre EP Shape, comprising her unique style of indie, folk, jazz and pop. Gaining popularity after an endorsement by South Korean singer IU in 2021, Choi’s tracks “Warm-hearted” and “Stay” gained considerable traction online. Releasing another two singles in June and September; “Home” and “Reply”, Choi’s second EP Only Us appeared in December, followed by five-track Two in April the following year, preceding a sold-out concert in Seoul. Contributing to the original soundtrack of drama series Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha with her song “Wish”, Choi earned a nomination in the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards and her first position in the Top 100 singles chart. Shortly after releasing her fourth EP Journey, Choi contributed to several more soundtracks, including “That’s All” from Thirty-Nine, “No Encore Request” from Shared Office Hookup, “Won’t Give Up” from Sh**ting Stars and “I’ll Protect You” from If You Wish Upon Me. In May 2022, she released her fifth mini-album To the Other Side of Greed, followed by another successful solo concert, Aftertaste at the Yonsei University Centennial Hall, in December 2022.
