It seems odd that Bill Henderson did not make it big, particularly when one considers how few new male jazz singers emerged during the 1960s. This second of two CDs continues the reissuance of all of his 1959-61 recordings for Vee Jay. Although there are a few lightweight tracks, most of the selections find Henderson swinging lightly or wringing honest emotion out of the ballads. The backup varies greatly from string orcehstras and the Count Basie band to a combo with tenor-saxpohonist Eddie Harris and a quartet headed by pianist Tommy Flanagan. Both volumes are recommended.
