C’est en 1994 que Rick Smith, Darren Emerson et Karl Hyde débarquent avec ce premier album qui fait figure de véritable ovni dans la scène électro. Les chansons sont produites avec grand soin et reposent sur des fondations proches de la musique trance tout en conservant des forts éléments de dance. Véritable travail de groupe, Dubnobasswithmyheadman représente un mix de toutes les différentes influences des trois musiciens, allant puiser dans la techno européenne et dans les rythmes endiablés des boites de nuits d'Ibiza, et leur donnant un aspect poétique grâce à des textes réfléchis et des ambiances sombrement enivrantes. L’album constitue une belle démonstration des possibilités sans fin de la musique électronique et reste un classique du genre.
