Le voyage dans le temps est 100% garanti ! A la manière des Black Crowes, les excellents Alabama Shakes se sont arrêtés de grandir dans les glorieuses années 70. Mais au-delà d’abattre avec une certaine perfection la carte de la taxidermie, le rock aux accents sudistes, blues, country et soul de ce gang originaire d’Athens (en Alabama, of course…) livre de grandes chansons. Chansons évidemment qui suintent à peu près tous les grands noms d’antan : Led Zep, Allman Brothers, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, AC/DC, etc. Aux fourneaux, le guitariste Heath Fogg, le bassiste Zac Cockrell et le batteur Steve Johnson s’agitent comme des forcenés en cavale pour polir leur rythmique et aiguiser leurs riffs. Mais la véritable cerise sur le gâteau n’est autre que Brittany Howard, charismatique chanteuse maison dotée d’une voix soul surpuissante et grave. Sur ce premier opus, rien ne manque à l’appel pour que l’orgie rock’n’soul fasse son petit effet.
