Wes Period

Bringing a bright and often hazy lyrical flow to a variety of production approaches, Los Angeles-based rapper Wes Period debuted in 2011 and had a sizeable discography by the time he landed a major-label deal with help from Grammy-nominated songwriter Justin Tranter. Period has continued to develop his unconventional if pop-oriented style with the 2018 album Pretty Words and equally individualistic 2019 singles such as "My Benz." Wes Period (Wesley Austin Smith) was raised in La Habra, California but found roots in L.A. when he seriously began making music in the early 2010s. He honed his approach on early releases like 2011's Friendly Fire EP and early singles, often centered around partying and an always-sunny California lifestyle. In 2015 he dropped both the Photosynthesis EP and the "Champaign Champion" single, and was handpicked by rapper Vic Mensa to open several of his shows. In 2016 he teamed up with Ye Ali and singer Tommy Genesis to form the side project baby.daddi, releasing a four-song EP that summer. With more exposure than ever before, he completed work on his long-labored debut LP, Late Bloomer, which saw release in 2017. Period then signed with Facet, an Interscope-affiliated label co-founded by Justin Tranter, co-writer of hits by the likes of Fall Out Boy, Selena Gomez, and Julia Michaels. He made his major-label debut in 2018 with Pretty Words, and continued in 2019 with the Hank Solo collaborations "My Benz" and "Beautifully Broken."
