Chick Corea a toujours embarqué son jazz aux quatre coins du monde, de son Amérique natale au Brésil en passant par l’Europe et notamment l’Espagne. C’est l’héritage musical de cette dernière qu’il célèbre avec son Spanish Heart Band. Tout au long de l’album Antidote, le pianiste slalome en terre latin jazz, épaulé par un casting cinq étoiles de musiciens espagnols, cubains, vénézuéliens et américains, revisitant des pièces piochées dans ses albums My Spanish Heart (1976) et Touchstone (1982). Corea ajoute aussi de nouvelles compositions et des reprises d’œuvres d’Antonio Carlos Jobim, Paco de Lucía et Igor Stravinsky. Au sein de cet octet, il a réuni le guitariste flamenco Niño Josele, le saxophoniste et flûtiste Jorge Pardo (deux ex-complices de feu Paco de Lucía), le bassiste Carlitos Del Puerto, le percussionniste Luisito Quintero, le trompettiste Michael Rodriguez, le tromboniste Steve Davis et le batteur Marcus Gilmore. Son jazz bigarré et hétéroclite tend des ponts avec un grand naturel entre flamenco et bossa, rumba et soul, salsa et musique classique. Un arc-en-ciel qui rappelle l’originalité de la démarche d’un musicien majeur empêchant le jazz de tourner en rond depuis un demi-siècle… © Clotilde Maréchal/Qobuz
