L’un des plus grands bassistes de l’histoire du funk n’a pas uniquement agi en home de l’ombre. Car s’il a évidemment excellé derrière James Brown et autres George Clinton, Bootsy Collins a également fait des étincelles sous son nom. Pour preuve ce Ahh...The Name Is Bootsy, Baby! paru en janvier 1977 et qui réussira à se hisser à la première place des charts R’n’/Soul, chose qu’aucun disque venu de la galaxie P-Funk n’avait réussi à faire jusqu’ici… Produit par George Clinton et Bootsy, ce deuxième album solo est un feu d’artifice de funk 100% seventies. Tout est là : le groove tout puissant, les cuivres bouillonnants, les chœurs sexy, les paroles aussi bien humoristiques que très portées sur la chose et, évidemment, la basse maousse du maître des lieux, plus élastique que jamais.
