Dans cet album, on sent, on entend et on touche le sang, la sueur et les larmes. Derrière les chansons se cachent de généreuses mélodies et un chagrin se devine, mais on découvre aussi une assurance nouvellement acquise. Du thème classique, délicat et scintillant de "In My Place" aux envolées de piano de "The Scientist", Coldplay exsude la passion. La nébuleuse disco de "Daylight" et la ballade débordante d’amour de "Green Eyes" illustrent à la perfection de solides arrangements lyriques, mais "Politik", et "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face", avec sa guitare sensationnelle, nous montrent le groupe sous un jour un peu plus nerveux. Des échos des débuts du post-punk mettent en évidence la musicalité virile de Coldplay. A Rush of Blood to the Head n’accrochera peut-être pas instantanément l’auditeur, mais tel n’est pas son but. Il vous incite à déceler, au-delà d’un chant onirique, toute son essence musicale.
