White Sun

Based in Los Angeles, White Sun is a new age group whose diverse sound comprises elements of worldbeat, pop, folk, and even reggae. Initially specializing in musical versions of yogic mantras, the group earned a Grammy Award for their 2016 release White Sun II and over subsequent albums continued to expand their approach both on-stage and in the studio. Their 2022 collection, Mystic Mirror, also won a Grammy for Best New Age Album. Founded in 2015, White Sun's members include lead vocalist Gurujas, a former member of the Cleveland Orchestra Children's Chorus; Harijiwan, a gong virtuoso and veteran Kundalini yoga instructor; and Adam Berry, an Emmy-winning film and TV composer. They self-released their eponymous debut that same year, followed in 2016 by White Sun II on the Be Why label. The sophomore release reached number two on the Billboard world album chart and climbed to number one on the new age chart, eventually winning a Best New Age Album Grammy. The aptly named White Sun Gong, a full-length LP of pure solo gong playing by Harijiwan, arrived in 2018, as did White Song III. Along with the yogic mantras and chants, White Sun's music includes symphonic and pop elements, usually led by Gurujas' dulcet voice and the sophisticated instrumentation and arrangements of Harijiwan and Berry. Along with releasing albums like 2021's White Sun Sadhana, they also became a popular live act and in 2022 issued their first concert album, Interpretation of Dreams. In February 2023, the group won their second Grammy Award for the tranquil Mystic Mirror album.
