Scha Dara Parr

Scha Dara Parr, often shortened to SDP, is a Japanese hip-hop group consisting of two MCs (Yōsuke Matsumoto, AKA Ani, and Makoto Kōshima, AKA Bose) and one DJ (Shinsuke Matsumoto, AKA Shinco). The trio formed in Japan in 1988 and made their official debut with their 1990 album, Scha Dara Daisakusen. Their sound, characterized by their lyrics and aesthetics, drew comparisons with the American hip-hop trio Beastie Boys. They released their second album, Towering Nonsense, in 1991 and Wild Fancy Alliance in 1993. Their popularity in the United States grew following their guest appearance on American rap group De La Soul's 1993 album Buhloon Mindstate, with the song "Long Island Wildin'." In 1994, Scha Dara Parr released the EP Scha Dara Gaiden and the single "Kon'ya wa Boogie-Back" (今夜はブギー・バック, Kon'ya wa Bugī Bakku) featuring Kenji Ozawa. This became the group's most famous hit, achieving sales of over 500,000 units. The following years saw the release of albums such as Fun-Key LP (1998), Docompact Disc (2000), and 11 (2009). By that point, they had established a presence in the Japanese hip-hop scene as elder statesmen of Japanese rap. The group's vocoder-laden single "リンネリンネリンネ" featuring LUVRAW was released in 2023, reaching Number 19 on the Japanese Top 20 Radio chart.
