Kelly Key

Born Kelly de Almeida Afonso Freitas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on March 3, 1983, the pop singer, songwriter, and TV host is better known by her stage name Kelly Key. She released her debut self-titled album in 2001 at the age of 17. The album included the controversially suggestive single “Escondido”. Her commercial breakthrough was the single “Baba”. The album was a huge success, selling over a million copies in Brazil and going triple platinum in the process. The album also featured the hit singles “Cachorrinho” and “Anjo”. Key became a female role model for young girls in Brazil, spawning a merchandising blitz that included a doll, shoes, and other items. Her second album, Do Meu Jeito, was released in 2003, reaching Number 1 in the Brazilian charts. The album featured the singles “Adoleta” and “Chic Chic”. Her next album was the live release Kelly Key – Ao Vivo in 2004. Key chose to work with a new creative team and released her third album, Kelly Key (her second self-titled release), in 2005. The songs moved away from controversial subject matters, featuring lyrics aimed at her teen audience. The album, which featured the singles “Escuta Aqui, Rapaz” and a cover of Aqua’s “Barbie Girl”. With her change in direction, album and singles sales began to drop. She released her next studio album, Por que Não?, in 2006. In 2007, she released a compilation album, 100%. The album featured the Number 1 Brazilian single "Você é o Cara". She released the album Pra Brilhar in 2008, returning to her more controversial lyrical subject matter. Key took a break from the music industry and became a TV host and personality. After a few years away from the recording studio, she released singles in 2011 and 2012. In 2015, she released the album No Controle, which featured the single “Controle”.
