Flyying Colours

Inspired by the loud, heavy guitars of shoegaze groups like Ride and the sweet melodies of dream pop artists like Slowdive, Melbourne, Australia's Flyying Colors formed in 2011 to make their own version of the sounds they loved. They nailed this sound with their first two EPs and 2016 debut full-length Mindfullness, occasionally nodding towards Madchester and space rock influences. The band returned in 2021 with a brighter, sunnier second full-length, Fantasy Country. Built around the guitars and vocals of Brodie J Brümmer and Gemma O'Connor, with able backing on bass and drums by the brother team of Sam and Joshua Dawes, Flyying Colors released their first single, "Wavygravy," before issuing a self-titled EP in November 2013 on the Australian label Mascot. It was picked up for worldwide distribution by Shelflife in the U.S. and Club AC30 in the U.K. early in 2014. Touring and more recording followed, with another very similar EP seeing release early in 2015. The ROYGBIV EP was also issued by the team of Shelflife and Club AC30, while the latter also simultaneously put out a compilation of the two EPs titled EPX2. Bassist Melanie Barbaro and drummer Andy Lloyd-Russell joined the band, replacing the brothers, and their debut full-length, Mindfullness, was issued by Club AC30 in September 2016. The group spent much of the next five years touring, including dates in China and the U.K. as well as hometown gigs supporting international acts like A Place to Bury Strangers and Swervedriver. A single titled "Goodtimes" appeared in 2019, following in 2020 by "Big Mess." Second full-length Fantasy Country was released internationally by Poison City and Club AC30 in 2021.
