Emmanuele Baldini, Luca Delle Donne

Violinist Emmanuele Baldini has an international reputation but is especially well known in Brazil, where he has lived since 2005. He is also active as a conductor. Baldini was born in Trieste, Italy, on December 29, 1971. Both of his parents were music educators and pianists. Baldini began studying the violin when he was seven. He attended the Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Tartini in Trieste, studying with Bruno Polli, and went on to the Geneva Conservatory in Switzerland. There, his principal teacher was Corrado Romano. Baldini rounded out his violin education at the Salzburg Mozarteum with classes from Ruggiero Ricci, one of Italy's greatest violinists. He won several international competitions, including the Forum Junger Künstler in Vienna and the Premier Prix de Virtuosité in Geneva. Baldini served as concertmaster with the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Orchestra del Teatro Giuseppe Verdi di Trieste, and the Orquestra Sinfónica de Galicia. Most of Baldini's recordings have been as a violinist, and he began his recording career in 1997 on the Agora Musica label with a recording of violin sonatas by Franck and Albéric Magnard. His accompanist on that album was his father, Lorenzo Baldini. Emmanuele Baldini also began to pursue conducting, taking lessons from conductors Frank Shipway and Isaac Karabtchevsky. Baldini moved to Brazil in 2005 and has been especially active there, serving as concertmaster of the São Paulo State Symphonic Orchestra (OSESP) and also founding the OSESP Quartet, drawn from that orchestra's ranks. Baldini has been in demand as a guest soloist in Europe, appearing with such groups as the Wiener Kammerorchester, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. As a recitalist, he has appeared at the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Linz Brucknersaal, and Geneva's Victoria Hall, among other major venues; he has also toured Japan, Australia, and the U.S. Baldini has made more than 15 albums for Soundset, Da Vinci Classics, and Naxos; on the last-named label, he issued the album José Antônio de Almeida Prado: Works for Violin and Cello in 2024.
