Chevalrex
Chevalrex is the stage name of French singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist Rémy Poncet (May 19, 1982), whose languid, breezy brand of pop has often garnered comparisons to artists like Étienne Daho and Dominique A, or even Jonathan Richman. Born in Valence in the Southeast of France, Poncet began playing guitar at the age of 14 and soon became interested in designing album covers, something that would become his full-time job after graduating from the École Supérieure d'Art de Grenoble. After forming the duo Les Frères Nubuck with his brother Gontard! and releasing a series of instrumental albums under the name Rémy Chante between 2002 and 2011, Poncet dropped his critically-acclaimed studio debut, Catapulte, in 2013. Follow-up albums Futurisme (2016) and Anti Slogan (2018) were also met with rave reviews from the specialized press and paved the way for Providence, his fourth album as Chevalrex, released in 2021.
