Che Ecru
Vocalist/producer Che Ecru makes angular, exploratory R&B marked by its unusual production choices and moody atmospheres. Ecru began sharing his self-produced tracks online in 2015, and quickly built some buzz for himself. Ecru steadily released new music that continued building his listenership, gaining fans like Drake (who sampled one Ecru's tracks in a hit of his own in 2019) and prolifically sharing new projects like 2022's Pain Pack 5.
Che Ecru was born in Boston and became interested in music early in life. After attending college for a single week in 2015, Ecru dropped out to focus on music full time, working on instrumentals that highlighted his unique approach to samples, minimalist undertones, and uncommon use of rhythm and time signature. Early tracks like "2 AM" and "Good" led to 2017 full length Buries. His 2018 single "Before I Die" did well on its own, but the following year it was sampled for the Drake/Chris Brown collaboration "No Guidance," which expanded Ecru's profile. Now living in Los Angeles, Ecru released multiple new projects regularly. Along with stand alone singles, he frequently released projects like 2019 EP Ghosts Need Love 2, 2020 studio albums Still Single and Til Death, and 2022 offerings like the What Are We? EP and Pain Pack 5, all self-produced.
