JARV IS...

Jarv Is was formed in 2017 by British singer, songwriter, and radio personality Jarvis Cocker, best-known as the frontman for Britpop icons Pulp. Cocker had formed Pulp in 1978 and released a series of overlooked albums and singles beginning with the 1983 single “My Lighthouse”. Beginning with their 1992 single, “Babies”, the band’s commercial fortunes turned around and within two years, they were one of the most successful bands in the UK and Europe. With a series of singles reaching the Top 10 between 1995 and 1998 – “Common People”, “Sorted for E’s & Wizz”, “Something Changed”, “Help the Aged”, and “This is Hardcore” - Pulp were Britpop contenders alongside Blur and Oasis. By the early 2000s, the band’s popularity began to wane and they split up in 2002. While becoming involved in various projects, Cocker released his solo debut album, Jarvis, in 2006. He began hosting his own BBC Radio 6 show Jarvis Cocker's Sunday Service in 2009, which lasted six years. At the end of 2017, Cocker formed a new musical project called Jarv Is featuring Serafina Steer, Emma Smith, Andrew McKinney, Jason Buckle, and Adam Betts. Meant to be a primarily live band, Jarv Is’ goal was to write songs ‘in collaboration with an audience’. This unique approach resulted in the band’s debut single, “Must I Evolve?”, in May, 2019. In March, 2020, the band released their second single, “House Music All Night Long”. Their debut album, Beyond the Pale, was released in July, 2020.
