Das Libretto von „Partenope“ ist eines der besten, die Händel jemals vertonte, denn die moralische Entwicklung der fünf Protagonisten entspricht genau ihrem Charakter, und die Handlung dieser „seriösen Komödie“ vermeidet jene bisweilen an den Haaren herbeigezogenen Wendungen, mit denen manch andere Barockoper auf ihr „lieto fine“ zusteuert. Auch musikalisch ist alles vom Feinsten. Umso mehr überrascht, dass dieses Werk auf Bühne und Tonträger weit weniger Beachtung findet, als es verdient hätte: Nach Sigiswald Kuijkens verdienstvoller Ersteinspielung (1979) und einem nichtkommerziellen Mitschnitt von Nicholas McGegans Göttinger Aufführung (2001) hatte bislang nur noch Christian Curnyn dieses Werk auf CD vorgestellt (2005). Riccardo Minasis Einspielung übertrifft diese Produktionen insgesamt deutlich, und zwar nicht nur aufnahmetechnisch: Was vor allem bei Curnyn etwas routiniert wirkte, ist hier von innerer Glut und Leidenschaft durchdrungen. Die wesentlichen Kritikpunkte sind die oft zu bissige Artikulation der Streicher, das nervige Geklimpere der beiden Cembalisten und der völlig aus der Luft gegriffene Einsatz einer Viola d’amore in der Schmetterlingsarie „Qual farfalletta“. Ansonsten überzeugen die Musiker mit ihrem sehr guten Augenmaß in der Tempowahl, mit ihrer deutlichen, aber nicht übertriebenen Dramatik und vor allem mit ihrer vokalen Souveränität. Sehr erfreulich ist, dass die Sänger ihr Vibrato gut unter Kontrolle halten, was insbesondere die fast schon betörenden Timbres von Emöke Baráth (Armindo) und Theresa Iervolino (Rosmira) wunderbar zur Geltung kommen lässt. Karina Gauvin gestaltet die Titelrolle kernig und facettenreich, Philippe Jaroussky gibt einen liebenswürdigen Arsace, und auch die beiden kleinen Partien (Emilio und Ormonte) sind mit John Mark Ainsley und Luca Tittoto perfekt besetzt. Als Bonus bietet diese Produktion das alternative Finale von „Partenope“ (Dezember 1730).

Albumbeschreibung

Das Libretto von „Partenope“ ist eines der besten, die Händel jemals vertonte, denn die moralische Entwicklung der fünf Protagonisten entspricht genau ihrem Charakter, und die Handlung dieser „seriösen Komödie“ vermeidet jene bisweilen an den Haaren herbeigezogenen Wendungen, mit denen manch andere Barockoper auf ihr „lieto fine“ zusteuert. Auch musikalisch ist alles vom Feinsten. Umso mehr überrascht, dass dieses Werk auf Bühne und Tonträger weit weniger Beachtung findet, als es verdient hätte: Nach Sigiswald Kuijkens verdienstvoller Ersteinspielung (1979) und einem nichtkommerziellen Mitschnitt von Nicholas McGegans Göttinger Aufführung (2001) hatte bislang nur noch Christian Curnyn dieses Werk auf CD vorgestellt (2005). Riccardo Minasis Einspielung übertrifft diese Produktionen insgesamt deutlich, und zwar nicht nur aufnahmetechnisch: Was vor allem bei Curnyn etwas routiniert wirkte, ist hier von innerer Glut und Leidenschaft durchdrungen. Die wesentlichen Kritikpunkte sind die oft zu bissige Artikulation der Streicher, das nervige Geklimpere der beiden Cembalisten und der völlig aus der Luft gegriffene Einsatz einer Viola d’amore in der Schmetterlingsarie „Qual farfalletta“. Ansonsten überzeugen die Musiker mit ihrem sehr guten Augenmaß in der Tempowahl, mit ihrer deutlichen, aber nicht übertriebenen Dramatik und vor allem mit ihrer vokalen Souveränität. Sehr erfreulich ist, dass die Sänger ihr Vibrato gut unter Kontrolle halten, was insbesondere die fast schon betörenden Timbres von Emöke Baráth (Armindo) und Theresa Iervolino (Rosmira) wunderbar zur Geltung kommen lässt. Karina Gauvin gestaltet die Titelrolle kernig und facettenreich, Philippe Jaroussky gibt einen liebenswürdigen Arsace, und auch die beiden kleinen Partien (Emilio und Ormonte) sind mit John Mark Ainsley und Luca Tittoto perfekt besetzt. Als Bonus bietet diese Produktion das alternative Finale von „Partenope“ (Dezember 1730).

Die Symphonie fantastique von Berlioz hat als wahres Manifest der Entstehung der französischen Romantik das 19. Jahrhundert ebenso geprägt wie Strawinskys Sacre du printemps das 20.
