Parisian Afro-beat aficionado and manager of the accomplished F Communications imprint, Frikyiwa tires of collecting records in favor of a return to the source, traveling to Africa itself to enlist the talents of the continent's finest vocalists. The resultant double-CD collection, his first album in over three years, is a refreshing blend of house goodness with worldly vocal contributions from an army of luscious divas led by longtime Galliano contributor Nahawa Doumbia. Throw a barrow-load of exotic-sounding traditional instrumentation into the nu jazz cauldron and the resultant blend becomes all things to all listeners. Ambitious and enjoyable.
