Die dänische Singer- Songwriterin Agnes Obel dürfte deutschsprachigen Musikfans vor allem durch ihren Hit "Just So" aus dem Jahre 2009 ein Begriff sein, der unter anderem in einem TV-Spot zu hören war. Vier Jahre später folgte rechtzeitig zum Herbstbeginn ihr Zweitwerk Aventine, auf dem sich die Geschichte ihrer auf Gesang und Klavier fokussierten, meist melancholischen Klangreise fortsetzte. Zu diesem einfach arrangierten Klangbild gesellen sich noch Cello, Violine und Bratsche hinzu, die an manchen Stellen für eine Requiem-Atmosphäre sorgen ("The Curse", "Words Are Dead"). Wie bei ihrem Debüt Philharmonics (2010) ist die Künstlerin auch hier für das Schreiben aller Songs, deren Arrangements und die Produktion alleine zuständig.
