Mark Diamond
Los Angeles-based singer Mark Diamond makes emotive, atmospheric pop that straddles the line between soulful, acoustic balladry and dance-oriented electronica. He first grabbed listeners' attention with his moody 2016 EP Cosma, followed a few years later by 2019's Hummingbird One and Two EPs.
A Seattle native, Diamond grew up with his father, an airline pilot, and spent much of his youth traveling around the Pacific Northwest. Interested in music from a young age, he developed a love of bands like the Beatles, R.E.M., and Coldplay. By his pre-teens he was already writing his own songs and at age 12 played his first performance. After high school, he studied briefly at college where he spent much of his freshman year playing the piano in his dorm. While recording his debut album, he received an email from his school stating that he had been kicked out. Rather than feeling disheartened, Diamond instead pushed forward with his music career, relocating to Los Angeles where he took a job at a coffee shop. In 2016, he issued his debut EP, Cosma. Over the next few years, he stayed busy performing and working on material in California and London with writer and producer Richard Craker. Diamond made a splash in 2019 with a pair of EPs, Hummingbird One and Two.
